CAFOs
Great article in the Tennessean this morning about CAFOs (concentrated/confinement animal feeding operations) which points out some of the problems inherent in the attempt to side-step the rules of nature and nature's God.
While CAFOs seem to have lowered the relative expense of meat, eggs and milk in the Empire, the hidden costs are beginning to reveal themselves.
But the system also has created disasters such as the August recall of half a billion salmonella-tainted eggs. Critics say the consolidation of food production has led to environmental damage, the loss of millions of small independent farms, rising health-care expenditures and billions in tax-funded subsidies to produce cheap animal feed.
